In addition to donating money to charity and volunteering, IU also uses her name and status as a public figure to help locate missing children, making her a role model for many people.
In 2013, IU donated her voice by narrating stories of missing children on radio programs “KBS Cool FM” and “Audio DMB UKBS Music’s Closer…This is Choi Daniel”.
IU – “I’m not sure if it’s because I play the role of someone who desperately desires her family’s love and warmth, but my heart really felt for the families who have lost their children. I won’t be able to fully express their hearts through my narration, but I hope that many people will take interest so that the children can be returned to their families at least one day faster.”
Furthermore, in July 2020, IU’s agency EDAM Entertainment started using IUTV (personal vlog from IU’s YouTube channel ‘dlwlrma’) as a platform for a missing children campaign. An image of a missing child was inserted at the end of every new episode. The image included the personal information, photo and description of the missing child at the time of disappearance. It is a collaboration between EDAM Entertainment and the National Center for Child Rights and Missing Children.
EDAM Entertainment Representative – “IU was wondering if she can be of any help and reached out to the organization (National Center for Child Rights and Missing Children) in hopes to offer help out of good intentions. The campaign images and information were not randomly inserted, but received through police after obtaining the necessary procedural permission and consent from the children’s guardians.
IU – “We are looking for missing children. If you have seen the child above, please notify the nearest police station or call 112. We ask for your cooperation in finding the missing children.”
